Today I would like to share something special with you; an experience I have recently had.
At that time, I had sort of a spiritual crisis and was talking to my spiritual guide
[i]. It was already late at night when I explained to my SG that I somehow felt stuck, not knowing how to move forward, where to move next and that it sort of felt as if I was standing in a deep dark forest not knowing how to get out or where to move to. My SG then said: Nicole if it’s dark and you can’t move, why don’t you just light a candle?
I was a bit confused and replied: a candle? He said: yes, a candle! And no, stop thinking too much again, now you’re going like: ‘of course I carry a candle every time I go into a forest’ or ‘how for God’s sake shall I light a candle if there is no matchstick’?
Exactly, I thought....well, I thought, – too much again...
My SG then said: ever thought about YOU being the candle?
- Me?
- Yes, YOU can be the candle. You need no light, you are already shining and if you trust in yourself, you will find a way out. Just listen to yourself. Sit down, close your eyes, relax and feel the forest around you, then follow your heart, the light will guide you all the way out.

Why am I sharing this with you?
Because I actually never thought about being a candle and the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. In general, each and every one of us is a candle shining in the dark, but sometimes we lose trust, trust in ourselves, in our God feeling, in our capabilities. Sometimes the wind blows so hard into our faces that we fear our light will stop shining. But you know what? It will always shine! There is no way it will ever go out as we are all made of energy and energy is infinite.

Isn’t it actually pretty cool that we are all candles? If we all push away our fears, stop living in greed and self-made pain but instead share our light with each other, this would end in one powerful light ray. More beautiful than every rainbow on earth (oh and I’ve seen many).
So again, I want to encourage you (and not only for today) to sit down, calm down, relax and start – or retry speaking to your SG. There is always a way out!

[i] When I talk about "spiritual guide", it is the wording I personally use; some may call it inner voice and others call it prayer. There are actually many expressions for and opinions on what I call a spiritual guide. I don’t judge anyone who may prefer another naming/expression and likewise I ask you to respect my way of describing it.
I will from now on use the short term SG in my writing.
